****BOOKS OF THE MONTH**** This month's recommendations come from Innis Dalrymple in S2 and Mrs Scott in the Library(thanks to Mrs McLeod for the book loan) SCYTHE by Neal Shusterman Scythe is an invigorating book about a futuristic world that has concerned death. But there's a catch, to stop the world from getting to populated they have scythes. Scythes have one job and that is to kill a certain amount of people each year. When Citra and Rowan are chosen to be scythe apprentices they accept and train in the art of killing. But, when conflict brakes out in the scythedom both Citra and Rowan are told that at the end of their apprenticeship the one to take the role of scythe will be made to kill the other... Scythe is an amazing book with an incredibly well thought out plot. With no boring bits I was hard pressed to put it down. once you have been sucked into the twisted world you find out that no matter how hard we try, humans are always susceptible to our own greed and cruelty. PIRANESI by Susanna Clarke Piranesi's house is no ordinary building: its rooms are infinite, its corridors endless, its walls are lined with thousands of statues, each one different from all the others. Within the labyrinth of halls an ocean is imprisoned; waves thunder up staircases, rooms are flooded in an instant. But Piranesi is not afraid; he lives to explore the house. There is one other person in the housea man called The Other, who visits Piranesi twice a week and asks for help with research into A Great and Secret Knowledge. But as Piranesi explores, evidence emerges of another person, and a terrible truth begins to unravel. This book was perfectly paced and kept me guessing until the end.
